Our Services

A full-service optical destination

At Omega Optical, we can take care of all your optical needs in-house. Call us at (416) 281-5184 and we will gladly book you an appointment with one of our optometrists.

Already have a prescription? Then come by the store. Our optician, Chiu, will be happy to take care of your needs. He has decades of experience in everything from glasses to contact lenses and even prescription swimming goggles. If you have a unique, difficult-to-fit situation, we can also help. Take a look at our section below (entitled “unique and difficult-to-fit situations”) for additional details.

Some folks only want new lenses, not frames. That’s understandable. Sometimes, you love what you already invested in. Because of this, we also sell lenses alone. And with our in-house laboratory, we can fill your new lens prescription without taking your sole pair of glasses from you. We order new uncut lenses from local Canadian suppliers and when the uncut lenses arrive, it’s an under 30 min wait while we fit them to your existing frames.

Quality and value for our customers

As we’ve noted before, being a small business with an in-house laboratory has its advantages. It allows us to avoid unnecessary overhead costs. The savings are passed onto our customers.

What does this look like? One example is Edge Polishing. A premium feature for glasses, it’s when the edges of your lenses are polished to be extra shiny. This can help mask the thickness of a high prescription, which some folks prefer. Though some optical stores charge $20-40 for this as an add-on, at Omega Optical, it’s included in all of our glasses. It’s just one example of how our in-house laboratory benefits our valued customers.

Interested in learning more about the value of an in-house laboratory? Feel free to read our note about it above.

In-house laboratory

Not all lenses are the same. As such, it makes all the difference to take a tailored approach to each and every pair of glasses. At Omega Optical, we have been creating customized lenses since 1980.

We use state-of-the-art edging equipment for your lenses paired with manual adjustments to fine-tune everything. We carefully adjust lenses by one-hundredth of a millimeter at a time. Though this is a slower, more meticulous approach, it allows us to ensure that your lenses remain in their frame (during regular wear). This removes the risk of lenses popping out of the frames within a few weeks. Smaller labs such as ours can afford to focus on tailored quality vs the pressure that some larger labs may have to focus solely on quantity.

At the same time, our full-service business allows us to cut out the middle-person. This allows us to pass on any cost savings to our customers. Good quality at reasonable prices. It’s why some customers have returned to our store for decades.

Unique and difficult-to-fit situations

Our over 40 years in business and in-house laboratory have provided us with advanced expertise in unique and difficult-to-fit optical situations. Not only can we meet your need for glasses, but also unique contact lenses as well.

For example:

  • High astigmatism requiring bitoric lenses (we can help the frames sit comfortably when you have a much stronger prescription in one eye vs the other)

  • Strabismus (lazy eye) requiring specialized glasses

  • Presbyopia requiring progressive lenses (bifocals or trifocals) contact lenses

  • Keratoconus requiring gas-permeable (i.e. hard), hapatic / scleral contact lenses

  • Multifocal (bifocal or trifocal) gas-permeable (i.e. hard) contact lenses

  • No-line multifocal progressive lenses (bifocal or trifocal) glasses

What’s more, with our on-site laboratory and in-house optician, Chiu, we’re able to polish and adjust gas-permeable contact lenses and glasses on the premise. This significantly reduces wait time.

Our team is also well-versed in training customers on how to wear their contact lenses and care for both their lenses and their eyes. We’ll spend the time to carefully walk you through everything you need to know.

Special coatings on your glasses

We provide several options, including:

  • Easy Clean Coat® (ECC) AR (anti-reflection / anti-glare) coatings (this is one of the best scratch-resistant AR coatings)

  • UV filter

  • Blue-blocker coating (digital LED screen blue light filter)

  • Transitions® lenses (auto-tint when exposed to sunlight)

  • Polarized lenses (for sunglasses)

Advanced on-site optical expertise and equipment

At Omega Optical, we invest in your optical health. Our team is not only trained in advanced services (see the section on “unique and difficult-to-fit situations”), but also trained on specialized, in-house optical equipment.

This allows us to take better care of your eye health. For example, we invest in multiple specialized pieces of equipment to check for eye diseases such as glaucoma:

  • Visual Field Analyzer - to check your field of vision within the retina

  • Slit Lamp with Tonometer - to check for eye pressure

  • OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) - 3D camera to check for tissue thickness depletion within the retina

  • Phoropter - to check your prescription

This allows us to ensure optimal accuracy when testing for eye health.
